SS Hororata Troop Transport Mannequin Mascot World War I New Zealand Sunk Photo
This lot is a vintage photo showing a gun on the deck of the SS Hororata. The Hororata was a New Zealand ship used to transport soldiers home from the fronts. A mannequin is positioned at the base of the gun. The caption of the photo states that the mannequin is "The Mascot of the Hororata." World War I soldiers in uniform are shown lying down and sitting on the ship's rail near the mannequin. The ship was sunk by a German submarine in 1943. This photo is approximately 5.75" by 3.5".
