Built in 1906, the Irwin House reveals many of the design elements which would later be refined by the talented team of Charles and Henry Greene. With the two-story court in the center, and the rooms grouped around it, the house has one of the most unusual plans of any that the Greene brothers designed. In addition, the house represents an experimental period in their detailing, and displays their ingenuity in transforming what was originally a single-story structure for a former client into a much larger two-story house. The House reveals elements of design which were to be refined in the later works of Charles and Henry Greene. Many of the details are seen in an experimental stage. Its numerous rooms are arranged around a two-story interior open court and many of the second floor rooms open directly onto its balcony.
As a work of art these prints are worth purchasing in their own right. For those of you interested in building a historically inspired house, these plans could easily be adapted to a flat to low sloping site. With its extensive terraces and porches it is ideal for a warmer climate and its rustic wood construction would be most at home in a forested setting. Its exterior dimensions, including terraces and porches easily exceeds 80’x100’. The design needs a wide open area and is most suited for a country setting. The prints you are purchasing are crisp, high resolution black line copies on white bond paper. The original drawings were beautifully delineated around 1968. This extensive set of 14 drawing sheets includes historical notes, a site plan, three floor plans, four elevations, a large section showing the courtyard, and 5 pages of amazing details in the most refined Greene and Greene style, including staircases, inglenooks, doors, windows and trim. As a bonus, the set also includes drawings of the detached 3 car garage which has an apartment over it. This sheet alone is worth the price of admission! Please view my other auctions for more Craftsman style plans.
I also have plans for houses in other styles such as Victorian, Colonial and Prairie.

IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO BUILD:
These plans are not complete architectural drawings as might be required by your local permitting agency and do not contain all the structural, waterproofing and other details and information necessary for construction. But your local builder or architect should be able to adapt these drawings and add to them as necessary. What they do provide is accurate design information about a REAL historic house, not a pseudo-historic tract house as you will find in the house plan magazines on your supermarket shelf.
INTERNATIONAL BUYERS PLEASE NOTE:
Orders shipped to addresses outside the USA may be subject to customs duties at their destination. The buyer is responsible for any such duties.
The original drawings from which these dimensionally accurate scans were made are kept at the Historic American Building Survey, in the Library of Congress.
