    Description

    A commemorative cover carried by the California Zephyr on its first trip from Chicago to San Francisco and an original advertising brochure from inside the cover.
    The cachet on the cover in yellow or orange states the cover was carried on the first westbound trip from Chicago to San Francisco.  The Zephyr left Chicago on March 20, 1949 and arrived in San Francisco two days later, a trip of about 50 hours.
    Scan 1 is the front of the cover cancelled in San Francisco on March 22 and mailed to Hinckley, Illinois.  The back of the envelope is blank.  The flap was not licked shut. Inside the envelope is the advertising brochure.
    Scans 2 through 6 show the advertising brochure that is inside the cover.
    Scan 2 is the front of the brochure as seen when it is folded.
    Scan 3 is the front of the brochure when it is unfolded.
    Scan 4 is the back of the brochure when it is unfolded.
    Scan 5 is the top inside of the brochure.
    Scan 6 is the bottom inside of the brochure.
    The brochure is in mint or almost mint condition.
    This is a great piece of printed Americana for anyone interested in passenger trains and the immediate post war period of United States history.
